According to CNN, the Murle tribe led a revenge attack on the Nuer tribe because of the massacre that took place earlier this month. The attack left 57 killed and 52 wounded- most of whom were women and children.
The ethnic tensions in the Jonglei state have escalated because tribes are fighting over grazing land and water rights.
The United Nations estimated that at least 1,100 people have been killed and 63,000 displaced because of the ongoing tension. The South Sudan government has declared Jonglei state a “disaster area” and has asked for international assistance.
The international community must respond and help the Sudanese government combat these tensions before they escalate into a full-on genocide.
