According to NPR, dolls of the Simpsons cartoon characters are now banned in Iran. The Simpsons dolls join a list of other toys, such as Barbie, who are all banned because they promote Western culture.
While Barbie and the Simpsons are banned, Superman and Spiderman are still allowed because they help the oppressed, according to another article by NPR.
According to the article, Mohammad Hossein Farjoo, secretary of policymaking at the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults said to Shargh daily, “We do not want to promote this cartoon by importing the toys.”
Iran has banned books, music, toys, haircuts, fashion, movies etc in an attempt to shield Western influence from its citizens. Despite its attempts, many obtain the goods from a black market or smuggle in the goods, according to the article.
