According to the Huffington Post, Human Rights Watch has reported that Saudi Arabia’s sports minister and head of the Saudi National Olympic Committee confirmed on April 4 that the country will not support women in practicing sports. This means that no women will be representing Saudi Arabia at the Olympics.
Prince Nawwaf al-Faisal said: “Female sports activity has not existed [in the kingdom] and there is no move thereto in this regard.”
“At present, we are not embracing any female Saudi participation in the Olympics or other international championships,” al-Fasal continued.
Saudia Arabia is not the only country to deny women participating in the Olympics- Qatar and Brueni are the other two. However, it is the only country in the world that bars women from competitive sports in general.
